After seven years of dutiful planet exploration, the Mars Rover Spirit is given up on. Spirit last communicated March 22 of last year so I think the conclusion is unavoidable.

With that the robot performed much much better than anticipated and, with Opportunity still operating, the mission is a huge and ongoing success.

As you might know, the great gaming classic Civilization is going facebook. CivWorld is the love child of Civ’s original designer, Sid Meier. IGN played the alpha version for five days and like it a lot. A public open beta is due to start somewhere this summer.
